January 29, 2003 At The Tonight Show in LA
Hi Everyone,
Well, I ended my last entry saying I hoped to have more stories to tell and I sure do.
While in Los Angeles I decided to go to The Tonight Show. Jay Leno comes out about
a half hour before taping and warms up the crowd. He tells a few jokes then takes
questions from the audience. I managed to get his attention, stood up and asked him
how I could get on The Tonight Show. He said come on down to the stage where he
made some jokes about me being a songwriter, which is part of this segment, joking
with and on the audience. Then he says why don't we take a picture at the desk.
So, here I am on the set of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno! Jay, if you ever come
to read this, thanks for that entertaining moment.
I had a wonderful drive traveling the California coast from San Jose to LA. I met some
new friends along the way who were nice enough to give me a place to sleep and help steer
me on my journy. I saw Cannery Row in Monterey and hiked in Big Sur. I saw thousands of
elephant seals in San Simeon and visited Hearst Castle. I spent a day on the beach in
Santa Monica. After all, this is southern California. I also visited the Getty Museum in
LA. The collection of artwork there is astonishing. You could spend a week viewing
paintings, sculptures, tapestry and drawings from many different eras, and its free to
the public!
I'm now leaving LA, heading for Phoenix and a trip to the Grand Canyon. And I'm leaving
with a natural high after my first appearance at The Tonight Show. (:
So long for now, Peter
