Hi Folks,
Today I am in Chatsworth, GA. I'm visiting with my old friend Greg Baker, Greg is a
chiropractor and it's been an opportune stop because I've developed a sore back from
riding in the car so much.
Upon leaving Manassas I got on Skyline Drive which eventually becomes the Blue Ridge Parkway.
What a majestic drive! As you weave your way accross the mountain tops you have the
Shanandoah Valley on your right and the Piedmont Region on your left. Every turn leaves
you with another spectacular view.
I got off the Parkway in Charlottesville to visit Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello.
It is beautiful. The home is built on a hillside that allows for a 3/4 view of the entire
valley. Of course, the home is steeped in history, The tour guide told us that Jefferson
often said a person should do four things every day. Exercise, play some music, drink
some wine and learn something new. Sounds like good advice to me.
I moved on to visit some friends in the Western mountains of N. Carlina, about 30 miles
north of Asheville. Talk about winding mountain roads! It amazes me that people moved up
to these mountains and carved farmland out of mountainsides. We went to Ashville one day
and had lunch at a place called the Pine Grove Inn. It's a huge hotel built on a mountainside
overlooking the city. If you're ever in Ashville it's worth a visit.
Today is Greg's birthday, so we we're going up o Chatanooga,TN tonight for dinner.
I'll leave here in a few days to head to Nashville, up St. Louis, then it's off to the west coast.
So long for now.
